Musk unapologetic as Pakistan gives Starlink approval to operate

Starlink approval to Pakistan

Pakistan has granted Starlink, a satellite-based internet provider owned by Elon Musk, a temporary No Objection Certificate (NOC) to operate in the country. This move comes despite lawmakers previously linking permission to an apology from Musk over his remarks on ‘grooming gangs’ ยน.

Musk’s statements sparked outrage in Pakistan and among the diaspora, with critics arguing that his remarks fueled xenophobia and oversimplified complex societal issues. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned Musk’s attacks, accusing him of spreading misinformation.

The IT Ministry issued a statement confirming Starlink’s temporary NOC, citing consensus from all security and regulatory agencies. IT Minister Shaza Fatima noted that Starlink’s arrival will mark the formal launch of satellite internet services in Pakistan.

Starlink’s entry into Pakistan has the potential to transform the country’s internet landscape, especially in rural and remote areas. The company’s technologically advanced services offer internet connectivity through Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.
